Il volume, pubblicato in occasione della 12° Mostra Internazionale d'Architettura di Venezia, è parte di un progetto iniziato nel 2008 che, attraverso l'arte contemporanea, affronta il tema della relazione tra l'uomo e il suo ambiente di riferimento, inteso non solo come luogo fisico ma anche culturale.
Nella prima fase del progetto si era analizzata questa tematica attraverso l'opera di artiste contemporanee, in quest'occasione vengono invece presentati, quali esempi paradigmatici, i lavori di ventuno artisti di differenti nazionalità e di fama internazionale.
Si suggeriscono così molteplici letture dell'occupazione artistica dei luoghi, con attenzioni e focalizzazioni molto diverse, partendo dal presupposto che non esiste una diversità tra il fuori, il contesto, e il dentro, l'io dell'individuo, ma un paesaggio interiorizzato, riconiugato, dove si ricreano le condizioni di vivibilità di spazi usati con l'obiettivo di andare oltre l'ambito puramente disciplinare dell'architettura.
I lavori esposti rappresentano le varie declinazioni delle discipline artistiche: molti i video e le performances, dove il carattere effimero, la vitale utilizzazione del tempo e del corpo, l'ambiente e l'immediato contesto fisico determinano la pratica artistica. Altrettanti i lavori incentrati sulla reinterpretazione del disegno, della pittura, della fotografia, della scultura dove l'immediata presenza dei materiali definisce l'argomentazione visuale.
La ricca eterogeneità e la polifonia linguistica dei lavori proposti corrisponde allo stato reale della sensibilità e multi-identità contemporanea.

The volume, published on the occasion of the 12° International Architecture Exhibition of Venice, is part of a project commenced in 2008 which tackles, through contemporary art, the theme of the relationship between Man and his environment, understood not only as a physical but also a cultural place.
After having analyzed this theme through the work of contemporary woman artists, on this occasion we are on the contrary presenting, as paradigmatic examples, the works of twenty-one living internationally acclaimed male artists from various countries.
The result is a multifaceted interpretation of how art may occupy places, with very different attentions and focuses, based on the premise that there is no difference between the outside, the context, and the inside, the I of the individual, but an interiorized and united landscape where the liveable coonditions of the spaces are recreated in order to go beyond the purely disciplinary sphere of architecture.
The works included in the exhibition are variations on the themes represented by the artistic disciplines: there are numerous videos and performances, while the ephemeral character, the vital utilization of the time and the body, the environment and the immediate physical context determine the artistic practice. There are as many works that centre on a reinterpretation of drawing, painting, photography and sculpture, where the immediate presence of the materials defines the visual argumentation.
The rich heterogeneity and linguistic polyphony of the works presented reflect the real state of the contemporary sensibility and multi-identity.
