Heli Ryhanen

Heli Ryhänen (geb. 1971), die von der Kunsthalle Helsinki 2010 zu den vier interessantesten Positionen zeitgenössischer finnischer Bildhauerei gezählt wurde, schafft Figurenkonstellationen wie tableaux vivants.

Ihre mehr oder weniger lebensgroßen Puppen stellt sie in ebenso alltägliche wie existentielle Situationen. Die Puppe/Marionette ist Erdklumpen, Homunculus, Golem, Cyborg, Surrogat oder Idol. Wir spielen mit der Puppe und ihren surrealen Möglichkeiten, und gleichzeitig lockt sie uns auf den schmalen Grat zwischen Bewusstsein und Traum. In den Beziehungen zwischen uns und der Puppe (i.e. Heli Ryhänens Figuren) steckt der Keim des Verstörenden und des Unheimlichen. Angesichts der in vielen Lebensbereichen forcierten Virtualität der digitalen (Spiele-) Welt, die uns unseren Körper potentiell als umfassend veränderbar denken lässt, ist das Unheimliche nicht so weit von unserer Realität entfernt, wie wir manchmal glauben möchten.

Heli Ryhänen (b. 1971), whom the Kunsthalle Helsinki has described as one of the four “most interesting names in Finnish contemporary sculpture,” creates constellations of figures that resemble tableaux vivants, arranging her more or less life-sized puppets in situations that are as commonplace as they are existential. The puppet or marionette is a lump of earth, a homunculus, a golem, a cyborg, a surrogate or idol. As we play with the puppet and its surreal possibilities, it beckons us to walk the fine line between consciousness and dream. Our relations with the puppet (i.e., Heli Ryhänen’s figures) harbor the seed of the disturbing and the uncanny. In light of the virtuality of a digital (gaming) world that is forcefully reshaping many areas of our lives and enables us to conceive our own bodies as potentially capable of comprehensive modification, the uncanny is not as far removed from reality as we may sometimes prefer to believe.

Heli Ryhänen (1971), considerata una delle quattro più interessanti artiste nel panorama della scultura contemporanea finlendese, crea composizioni figurative tridimensionali, simili a tableux vivants. L'artista inserisce le sue bambole – che sono contemporaneamente ammassi di terra, "homunculus", "golem", "cyborg" e idoli –, a grandezza più o meno naturale, in situazioni sia quotidiane sia esistenziali. Il pubblico gioca con le bambole e con le possibilità surreali che offrono, varcando quella sottile linea di confine che esiste tra coscienza e sogno. Nella relazione che si instaura tra noi e le figure di Heli Ryhänen, sta il germe di quello che ci tormenta e di quello che ci inquieta. Di fronte alla virtualità forzata offerta dal mondo digitale che ritroviamo in tanti campi della vita – e che porta a immaginare il nostro corpo come potenzialmente modificabile nel modo più completo – l'inquietante non è poi così tanto distante dalla nostra realtà come a volte ci piace credere.
